What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning natural beauty of Crystal Pools, with its clear rock pools and waterfalls offering a magical swimming experience. The hike through Fynbos is also a highlight. However, be prepared for potential baboon encounters and the need for advance booking due to limited daily slots.
"Amazing experience. There are limited slots everyday only in season and it gets booked out fast. The walk to the last pool is not challenging but a few sections require a bit of scrambling. There are many more pools which can be explored. It is possible to swim but some pools are very deep so be careful. The trail markers are few and far apart so there are chances of getting lost. Also heard of Baboon issues but luckily I didn't face any. It is recommended not to take food and eat it openly due to this. Also don't leave bags unattended, baboons might steal it. Carry enough water with salts as it can get very hot. There is ample parking opposite the gate. Gate opens at 7:30"

"Beautiful hike but I recommend not taking anything with you. The baboons were very tough to deal with initially. We became friends either them after time and enjoyed it all, plus the swim. It’s 80 mins to the pool, not 45.
.Don’t take ANY food in and it’s probably better taking nothing at all. Drink the river. The grille shack resto nearby is brilliant. Especially Nola the lady in the gift shop with all the booze shots!"

"I finally managed to hike this trail and it was so worth it!
Beautiful scenery and cooling swims in between
Not an easy hike in terms of finding the way sometimes but if you stay aware it’s fine
We did not meet any baboons but got warned that they will take our backpacks to search for food
Would definitely come back"

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
If you do decide to bring children, prioritize safety by ensuring they wear appropriate footwear, carry plenty of water, and are closely monitored, especially near the water's edge. The risk of encountering bold baboons also adds another layer of concern for families. Consider a guided tour that might offer more support for families.

To save money, pack your own food and drinks (keeping in mind the baboon warning – perhaps opt for non-food items or eat before you go). Carpooling with friends or using ride-sharing services can also help reduce transportation costs. The hike itself is free once you have your permit, making it a fantastic value for a day of adventure and natural beauty.
