What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Berg-en-Dal Rest Camp is highly praised for its exceptional value, cleanliness, and friendly service, far exceeding expectations for its price. Guests love the abundant wildlife sightings directly from chalets and the well-maintained facilities, especially the pool. Some older accommodations need updates, and mobile signal is weak, but these are minor drawbacks for most visitors seeking an immersive nature experience.
"Berg-en-Dal Rest Camp far exceeded all our expectations. For the price, the quality and cleanliness were outstanding. The housekeeping team did a fantastic job keeping everything spotless and well-organized each day, which made our stay incredibly comfortable. We stayed at the J. Le Roux Lodge as a group of five, the lodge was spacious, with air conditioning in every room and fresh towels provided daily. Although there were only two bathrooms, it was manageable for our group.
One of the most special parts of our stay was the wildlife we could see directly from the lodge. We spotted plenty of birds, playful monkeys, and graceful impala around the camp, and even saw elephants and waterbuck in the distance — a truly magical experience. The data signal was a bit weak, but honestly, that added to the charm. Being in Kruger is about switching off and immersing yourself in nature, and Berg-en-Dal makes that easy.
The on-site restaurant deserves high praise. The chefs did an incredible job, serving delicious, high-quality meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner that kept us happy and full throughout our stay. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and flavorful.
The camp also offers guided game drives in the early morning and evening, which we highly recommend. The drives give you a real chance to see Kruger’s wildlife up close in their natural habitat.
Overall, Berg-en-Dal delivered an unforgettable experience, definitely recommend staying at the lodge for a first timer"

"Berg-en-Dal sits in the lower western part of Kruger, close to Malelane Gate and about 50 minutes from Nelspruit. It’s one of the “newer” camps from the 1980s, although the buildings haven’t really seen updates since. The layout is different from the classic rondavel camps, which gives it its own feel. Check-in was friendly and efficient, and when we mentioned that we had booked a perimeter chalet but received an inside unit, the agent fixed it immediately. Check-out was smooth as well.
We stayed in a 3-bed chalet right on the fence. It had a double bed, a single bed, an outdoor terrace with braai, and a kitchenette with all basic appliances. The unit was okay, but many items clearly need a refresh or repairs. The fridge was brand new and great, and this time the aircon worked properly. The bathroom was old but functional with strong water pressure, although the shower tap dripped constantly. On the positive side, we saw one newly renovated chalet and it looked fantastic — hopefully the rest will follow soon.
The camp has everything you need: a good shop with groceries, fresh produce, and souvenirs, a restaurant, a laundromat, a fuel station, braai areas, and a pool that is honestly one of the best in all SANParks camps. There’s basic mobile signal and an internet café at reception, but no Wi-Fi yet.
Overall, Berg-en-Dal is a nice camp with a relaxed atmosphere. Some things definitely need attention and renovations, but it was a pleasant stay and we’d come back."

"I stayed at the camping grounds and had such a great experience! We arrived on a Sunday in pouring rain, yet the bathrooms were spotless — and they stayed that way for all five days of our visit. The bathrooms, showers, kitchen, and pool were always impeccably clean. I’m already looking forward to coming back next year!"
