What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are captivated by the breathtaking scenery and the unique experience of riding one of the world's longest cable cars, spanning two countries. While the Italian side offers modern amenities and great slopes, the Slovenian side is lauded for its sunnier weather and stunning natural beauty. Some older lifts on the Slovenian side and occasional wind-related closures are noted drawbacks, but the overall consensus is that the views and natural environment make it a worthwhile visit.
"This must have been the longest cable car in the world. First time we had two middle stations before reaching the top. Beautiful views on the way. Not the most modern but still quite quick, but be aware bring something to drink in the summer months. Was warm during the first part before starting to climb up the mountain. The view upstairs was incredible. Possible to walk up the hillside to the mountain top. Was around 17 degrees on the top on a warm sunny day. Possible to sit down and buy a drink or something small to eat on the top station. Also possible to visit with smaller kids. No possibility to go with a stroller up on the mountain so leave it in the car. Good parking lot! Well worth a visit!"

"In the summer for a reasonable price the 4 persons cabins take you high up the mountain plateau, all rocky terrain. Great view over Bovec valley and a small bar. For experienced a climb to top of Prestreljenik directly over ski resort or to it's natural window on the left is possible. Climb to High Canin is lengthy (min 2,5 hours one way) and has some scrambling up and down on the final ridge. Not too difficult but exposed, experience needed."
Malan Štrbenc
"Check the weather before visiting. Because on the top it is very often cloudy and foggy and you will cheat yourself of the impressive view. I was lucky because the weather was clear and I could see Adriatic see and even Italian city Udine.
It was worth it!"

Navigating the Slovenian and Italian Sides
Conversely, the Slovenian side, particularly the ascent from Bovec, is celebrated for its spectacular natural scenery and the iconic, albeit sometimes older, cable car. While some lifts on the Slovenian side might be less modern or occasionally not operational due to wind, the sunnier weather and the sheer beauty of the landscape are significant draws. Many recommend a combined ticket to fully appreciate the diverse offerings of both countries.
It's important to note that the cable car's operation can be sensitive to wind, so checking conditions is crucial. The Graben lift, for instance, is mentioned as sometimes not operating, which is a shame given the potential views. Despite these occasional limitations, the overall experience of traversing between two countries via ski slopes is a major highlight.
Summer Adventures and Hiking
For the more adventurous, the area offers excellent hiking opportunities. Experienced hikers can embark on challenging climbs, such as ascending to the peak of Prestreljenik or its distinctive natural window. A more demanding trek to High Canin is also possible, involving scrambling and requiring prior experience on exposed ridges. These hikes offer a chance to connect deeply with the rugged alpine environment.
Even for families, the summer experience is rewarding. The resort features playgrounds for kids and an adventure park, making it a fun destination for all ages. While strollers aren't practical, the accessible parts of the mountain and the stunning vistas make it a memorable summer outing.
