What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Debeli Rtič Landscape Park is praised for its beautiful, unspoiled nature and tranquil atmosphere, offering a glimpse into Slovenia's past. Visitors appreciate the scenic cliff walks and unique Shell Cemetery, though some note the rocky beaches and limited facilities outside peak season. It's ideal for those seeking a peaceful, natural escape.
"This is how Slovenia was 50 years ago, (with exception of the parking costs, all the rest is totally free of charge) beautiful nature, not exploited, not much luxury, a little simple campsite, large swimming area along the coastline, partly flat concrete with stone tiles and good and safe stairs into the water, partly shady natural coast with trees, very tranquil, with more local and other Slovene guests and only a few tourists and a nice view towards Koper.
There is a nice round walk on the top of the cliff between the vineyards and along the coastline, with also shady places on top of the cliff, first row, to stay the day on a towel or a camping chair, if the swimming is not the main course (one must walk some to get down to the water, directly down the cliffs (10 to 20 meters vertical) is not to be advised or even possible)
There are also some little holiday cabins, they were all fully inhabited with Slovene’s, so don’t know if they are in ownership or can be rented.
Regrettably when I was there (beginning of June) all the buildings that inhabited Toilets, changing rooms and kiosk or Cafe where closed and looked abandoned (there was a Dixie toilet and open, but closed for looks, changing possibilities at the beach) and I couldn’t say if this was because high season was not still there or they were closed definitely.
Parking space is there a lot, on the premises or about 150 meters up the road at a large public parking at the right roadside (all charged) and that only makes me wonder if the tranquility is the same in high season, can’t say, was there first week of June.
But I think it stays less crowded as elsewhere along the Slovene coast, because it’s more remote, so, if you want to get out of highly frequented beach areas and look for a more relaxed beach stay, where luxury and a lot of facilities are less important and you can provide in your own drinks and food (Cool Box) this could be the place to go (not all at once please 😉)"

"Clean Nature reserve. Easy to park, perfect for easy hiking and swimming. Quite amazing that it's located so close to a shipping lane for Koper port."

"Amazing view, beach is a bit rocky and hard to acces when you have small children. No place to camp near the shore. Warm water and lots of sealife."

Exploring the Natural Beauty
One of the most intriguing features is the Shell Cemetery, a natural phenomenon where countless seashells have accumulated over time, creating a unique and fascinating sight. The park also boasts a diverse Mediterranean flora, adding to its sensory appeal.
While the natural beauty is a major draw, it's worth noting that the park's simplicity means facilities might be basic or seasonal. Visitors are encouraged to embrace the natural, less-developed aspect of Debeli Rtič and come prepared for a peaceful, self-sufficient experience.
Coastal Walks and Views
These elevated paths provide breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea, stretching towards Italy on a clear day. It's a perfect setting for a leisurely hike, a moment of reflection, or capturing stunning photographs. The combination of sea air, fragrant pines, and scenic vistas makes these walks particularly memorable.
It's important to wear appropriate footwear, as the terrain can be uneven and rocky. The shaded areas along the cliff tops are ideal for resting and enjoying the scenery, perhaps with a good book or a simple picnic.
Swimming and Beach Experience
This natural setting means it's not a typical sandy beach, and access can be a bit challenging, especially for those with young children or mobility issues. However, the warm, clear water and the abundance of marine life make it a rewarding spot for swimmers who appreciate a more rugged environment.
Visitors often recommend bringing water shoes for comfort and ease of movement on the rocky surfaces. The tranquil atmosphere, combined with the refreshing sea, makes it a pleasant place to spend a day, provided you are prepared for the terrain.
