What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Piarg Gate for its beautiful restoration and historical significance as the last surviving city gate of Banská Štiavnica. It's appreciated as a well-maintained monument offering a glimpse into the city's defensive past. While not an interactive experience, its charm and proximity to other attractions make it a worthwhile stop for history enthusiasts and photographers.
"Preserved, originally the entrance gate to the city of Banská Štiavnica. It is just a historical building, definitely don't expect a museum or anything like that. But it is definitely worth a look, as it is really a jump from the New Castle."
Marek Dospiva
"It is a monument to the anti-Turkish fortification. It was once connected to the new castle, the so-called Vartovka. The attack of Turkish troops was reported from the new castle. The entire fortification consisted of 5 gates. Only this one has been preserved to this day. A short distance from the Piargská Gate you can find the grave of Marína Sládkovičová. About 2 minutes walk to Resla. If you are a collector of photos from your vacation, it is certainly one of the nice monuments of Štiavnica."
Jarmila Vojtelová
"The Piarg Gate is the only preserved city gate (there may be another one, but I haven't found it). It was built in the early 16th century in the Renaissance style. Next to it, a part of the city walls with one tower have also been preserved. In addition to defense, it also served as a place of control of entry into the city and a place of tax payment. It has recently been almost completely restored."
