What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors generally find Bojnice Zoo to be a pleasant and engaging experience, particularly for families. The variety of animals, including elephants and big cats, is a major draw. However, some guests have noted issues with signage and the attitude of staff at certain attractions, as well as higher prices for souvenirs and food.
"We visited the National Zoo Bojnice in 2021. The collection of other nearby attractions (including the castle, restaurant) made it feel connected like a theme park. There were stalls outside the castle, some where you could pay a fee to hold birds of prey. We paid 10€ for adult entry and 5€ for child entry. The zoo was originally a private collection of animals on the castle estate but since becoming public in 1949 has become one of the most visited zoos in Slovakia. It has all the expected facilities; foods and refreshments, toilets, baby changing area, gift shop, playground and picnic areas. The visitor route mostly looks outward on the enclosures, which means happily less walking and the animals have larger enclosures."

"2 adults and 3 kids, 34€. Very bad signage, we didn't know where to go from the car park, more signs would definitely help. Just follow the stalls. Stalls with souvenirs and toys were expensive. Zoo was nice, good selection of animals, kids enjoyed it. Very bad attitude from the staff at the bouncy castle. Service not great."

The zoo's layout is thoughtfully designed, with visitor routes primarily facing outward towards the animal enclosures. This design not only enhances the viewing experience but also allows for larger, more naturalistic habitats for the animals, a key aspect of modern zoological conservation. This approach ensures that visitors can observe the animals in environments that better mimic their natural settings, contributing to both animal welfare and visitor satisfaction.
Conservation Efforts at Bojnice Zoo
Visitors can contribute to these efforts by visiting the zoo and learning about the animals. Understanding the challenges these species face in the wild, from habitat loss to poaching, is the first step towards supporting conservation.
