This temple was built in 1855 on the largest plot owned by a Hindu settler named Naracingam. A smaller plot was given to the temple by its then owner, Moona Sithumbram Pillay in 1894. A third plot was purchased in 1912 from the East India Company by the Mohammedan and Hindu Endowments Board (which administered the temple from 1907).
