Reviews Summary

The Cactus Garden at Changi Airport Terminal 1 is a surprisingly peaceful rooftop oasis, praised for its diverse collection of cacti and runway views. While it's a designated smoking zone and can get warm, many travelers find it a refreshing and unique escape during their transit. It's a well-maintained spot that adds to Changi's reputation for passenger amenities.

"Relaxing Rooftop Garden – A Hidden Gem in Changi Airport

The Cactus Garden at Changi Airport Terminal 1 is a peaceful outdoor space, perfect if you want a quick break from the air-conditioned terminal. It's a small but beautifully maintained rooftop garden featuring over 100 species of cacti and desert plants from around the world. If you enjoy nature, it’s a nice spot to stretch your legs and relax between flights.

One of the highlights is the view — you can see planes taking off and landing while surrounded by unique cactus varieties. It’s a great place for a quick walk, to get some fresh air, or just enjoy a bit of quiet time. There are also helpful information boards explaining the different plant species, which adds to the experience.

Do note: This area is also a designated smoking zone, so at times there can be a smell of smoke. It’s something to keep in mind if you prefer smoke-free spaces.

Overall, it’s a lovely, unexpected little spot that shows why Changi is considered one of the world’s best airports. Well worth visiting if you have extra time during your transit!"

"The Cactus Garden is a nice outdoor space in Terminal 1 of Changi Airport. The main purpose is to provide a place for smokers but when we visited, it was smoke-free and very pleasant. The area was surprisingly large, open air and full of a variety of cactii 🌵. I was surprised to realise a) the great variety of species and b) that they can survive in a tropical and highly humid country like Singapore.

While it is not a big attraction, if you have some airport layover time, it is a good place to get a little fresh, warm air, take a few photos for the social media of your choice, stretch your legs a bit and kill a little waiting time without breaking out the wallet.

Pro Tip

Each terminal has an outdoor area (butterfly garden, etc.) with a different theme. While they are not as impressive as Kuala Lumpur's tropical rainforest in a terminal, they are still worth a visit, should time permits."
