"We only managed to get to this summit on a weekday and in the fog, but it was worth it. Epic views down the mountain, cable car cabins running in and out of the fog, and a chic bar and restaurant 601"

"The natural conditions of the Sakhalin Region, where winter lasts a long time, contributed to the development of winter sports, primarily skiing. There is information that during the Karafuto period (1905-1945), a tourist and ski resort[2] was already operating on the site of today's Gorny Vozdukh, where ski jumping competitions were held. According to other information, a military outpost was located on the site of the complex, where soldiers of the imperial army were trained for combat operations in the mountains, for which purpose the towers and ski jump were built.[3] And in the 1930s, the city of Toyohara (present-day Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk) was a candidate city to host the 1936 Winter Olympics. Two ski jumps of 50 and 70 meters, as well as ski slopes, were built on Bolshevik Mountain. During the Soviet era, construction of the tourist base began in 1958, and in 1960, the first alpine skiing competitions were held there. The opening of the easternmost ski and tourist base in the USSR was marked by a major sports festival."
