What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Tchaikovsky Museum-Estate for its informative tours and well-maintained grounds, offering a genuine glimpse into 19th-century Russian life and the composer's early years. While some note it's not an overwhelmingly 'wow' experience, the historical authenticity and the dedication of the staff make it a worthwhile visit, especially when combined with a guided excursion.
"My wife and I visited the Chaikovskiy home and museum when we went to Izhevsk to adopt twin boys at the Nehron children's home and medical facility when they were about 2 years old. We wanted to learn more about their heritage. Because the boys are half native Udmurt we visited a local museum to learn more about the Udmurts. Because I knew we weren't far from here we asked if it was possible that we could visit this site. Something I had not known was that the entire Chaikovskiy family had musical talents. It was a lovely and informative tour. We invited our driver to join us. He had never been there and appreciated the tour as much as we did. While the orphanage driver and I waited for my wife and interpreter next to his vehicle, him not speaking English and me no Russian, he pointed at the lake and motioned like he was casting a bait for fishing. I jestered like I had a mug of beer taking a drink. He smiled, I smiled and we both gave hi signs and laughed.
I felt after this trip and from meeting people not that different from ourselves that it is the leaders of the world that make things difficult for everyone. Most all of us just want to get along and get on with our lives. Today my twins are 29 years old. They have grown into fine, honest young men.
All in all we were in Russia for three weeks. We kept the boy's given names as their middle names. They became Joseph Pavel and William Konstantine plus, of course, our last name.
This was well worth the hour drive over from Izhevsk for the tour."

"Main tourists destination in the city of Votkinsk long tome secretly close town, centre of russian ballistic missile production. Chaikovskiy was born at the usad’ba and used to live here first 8 years. The museum are hold back that era showing basically not the Chaikovskiy early life but life of 19th Century itself. Worth to visit, but you dont have to expect anything wow."
