What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors acknowledge the monument's historical importance as Vladivostok's first major statue, honoring a key figure in Russian Far East exploration. However, the lack of English information can diminish the experience for international travelers, despite efforts to preserve its history.
"One of the many impressive monuments to great Russians, that are in the city. However all info in Russian so the meaning and history is lost on a foreign visitor."

"And Gennady Ivanovich surveyed the southern Amur, proving that it was possible to enter the river by sea. But he took it and proved that Sakhalin is an island and, having crossed the strait, founded the city of Nikolaevsk, for which Count Muravyov was very offended by him and began to scold St. Petersburg to the Emperor. And I also remembered his strategic initiatives in the southern direction. For this reason, Uncle Sasha the Chief decided to finally make Muravyov Amur and sent him farther away and to the south. It was he, Nikolai Nikolaevich, and not Admiral Nevelskoy, who became the pioneer of these lands and the author of the name Vladivostok. Nevertheless, Nevelsky’s merits did not go unnoticed and in 1891 a monument was erected to him in Vladivostok. The heir to the throne, Nicholas, later being the second, was present at this ceremony. The Soviet government did not dare to destroy the monuments to the pioneers of the Far Eastern lands, but on the approach to this monument there is an “extension to revolutionary heroes.”"

"In memory of Russian pioneers. The monument to Admiral G.I. Nevelskoy was the first monument erected in the city of Vladivostok. It was erected on May 17, 1891. Tsarevich Nicholas (the future Nicholas II), returning to St. Petersburg after a round-the-world voyage, attended the laying of the foundation stone. He personally laid a silver plaque at the monument's base. For a long time, the Nevelskoy monument was a symbol of Vladivostok.
An interesting fact is that Admiral Gennady Ivanovich Nevelskoy never visited Vladivostok."
