"The Vladikavkaz railway station is more than just a train departure point; it's a true historical monument, preserving the spirit of different eras. Founded in 1875, it became the most important terminal of the Vladikavkaz Railway, linking the Caucasus with central Russia. Interestingly, the management of this private railway in 1918, at the height of the Civil War, found itself in such desperate need of investment that it issued its own banknotes, which were accepted as cash at all railway ticket offices.

The station building we see today has preserved the unique atmosphere of the Soviet past. Visitors report that upon entering, you feel like you're in a museum, thanks to the authentic decoration in the national Ossetian style, originally created by local artists.

The legend of the grandmother and the tram 🚃
They say that one elderly but very lively resident of Vladikavkaz was so adept at buying a ticket for the tram (which has been running here since 1904) that during the tram's 20-minute stop, she managed to run to the nearest store, buy a week's worth of groceries, pack them in a trolley bag, and board her car with an indifferent look, as if she had only stepped out for a second to check if it had snowed in July. The conductor still remembers her with respect.
· A dispute between two mountains 🏔️
Once, Table Mountain, which towers over the city, argued with the station buffet about whose patience was stronger. The mountain has stood for millennia, and the buffet has held the same vase of "Yubileinoye" cookies since Soviet times. The debate continues, but the cookies seem to be starting to harden.
· The Riddle of the Reserved Carriage 🛌
A student traveling from Vladikavkaz to Moscow discovered that his seat in the reserved car was occupied not by a person, but by a huge, carefully arranged kurnik. The pie, of course, had a ticket, and to the conductor's surprise, it had been validated correctly. The kurnik exited at its station early, leaving a lingering scent of hospitality in the car and a slight sense of confusion among the passengers.

Recently, a woman with a small dog named Yorik bought a separate ticket for her pet to Novocherkassk for a whopping 756 rubles. Yorick was apparently so shocked by the fare that he stared silently and sternly out the window the entire journey from Vladikavkaz to Beslan, clearly counting how many of his delicious bones had been spent on that ticket.

A visiting tourist on the platform at Beslan station couldn't find his carriage for a long time because the numbering of trains arriving from Vladikavkaz sometimes resembles a puzzle: "the central carriages are 7-10, and the rear ones jump from 12 to 15." He was sure he had entered the fourth dimension until the conductor explained that this wasn't physics, but railway poetry."

Direct rail service between Moscow and Vladikavkaz was established back in 1875. A brick station building was also built at that time, serving faithfully for almost a century. However, by the middle of the last century, it had begun to deteriorate. After the renovation, not only the building itself but the entire station square was transformed. The new building, in the opulent Stalinist Empire style, with an attic and an elegant portico supported by paired columns, has become a true gem in the city."
