What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Mazhit Gafuri Memorial House for its affordable entry and the incredibly detailed, engaging tours provided by knowledgeable staff. The restored rooms offer an intimate glimpse into the poet's life, with the interactive piano experience being a particular highlight for families. While the museum itself is well-regarded, some local residents have noted issues with the surrounding neighborhood's upkeep.
"The museum building is an architectural monument of the nineteenth century. There are six halls in the museum in total. In the living room, bedroom and study, the furnishings of the poet’s apartment have been restored; in the other three rooms there is a documentary exhibition telling about the life and work of the poet. The museum workers give a very interesting and detailed tour of the museum. Each room contains things from those ancient times when the classic lived; in the bedroom there is an antique bed, a table, and the writer’s clothes. I was even allowed to touch an instrument that the classic master himself may have played. His shezhere, photographs, and all his works are displayed in the hall. I remember from the story of the guide, Gulnur Kurmanaeva, that this house was given to the writer by the Government of the Republic in connection with the awarding of the title of national poet at the beginning of the 20th century.
Entrance prices are cheap, but you get a lot for yourself here. Be sure to go!"
