"The monastery was built in honor of the second saint, Reverend Abraham of Smolensk. The style of the building is somewhat reminiscent of Byzantine. It is clear that the architect who designed it was inspired by foreign styles. In those days, as now, it was fashionable to bring architects and craftsmen from another country. Many are mistaken that the Russian style of this building, but if you think so, then many houses in Smolensk would have been built in this style. But as we can see from many surviving buildings, their style is completely different."
