What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Smolny Cathedral is widely praised for its stunning Baroque architecture, particularly its iconic blue and white exterior and elegant interior. Visitors rave about the breathtaking panoramic views from the belfry, making the climb well worth the effort. Some mention ongoing renovations, but the overall beauty and historical significance make it a highly recommended stop in St. Petersburg.
"It is being renovated as when I visited, it seems like just painted white and bright blue. It is very beautiful and you can walk around. You can get inside the cathedral but cannot get inside the buildings around as they are currently the university."

"This blue and white Baroque-style cathedral is a real masterpiece of Russian architecture, built from 1748 to 1757. It's one of the best places I visited during my trip to Russia. A must-visit if you are in St. Petersburg. The view from the top of the cathedral is amazing, it took my breath away."

"Truly a "wow" from afar and inside. Probably one of the most beautiful cathedrals I have seen with the calm blue exterior and the "pure" white ( and some gold) interior. The Cathedral was founded in 1748 by the empress Elizabeth Petrovna and was consecrated on July 20, 1835. There are scheduled visits to the belfry. Around the main cathedral are several other buildings that also served as a girls school. Definitely worth a visit."
