What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find St. Nicholas Church Usokha to be an impressive example of Pskov's historical architecture, even when undergoing restoration. The exterior is highly praised, and the dedication of parishioners to its upkeep is noted. Some visitors have experienced limited interior access due to ongoing repairs.
"The first stone church on what is now Sovetskaya Street appeared in 1371. It was named after St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The second part of the name comes from its location - in the 14th century, there was a swamp here, called "usokha" by the Pskovites. Unfortunately, the church has not reached us in its original form; in the 16th century, it was badly damaged by fire, as a result of which it was dismantled in 1535. A year later, a new church appeared in its place, second in size only to the Trinity Cathedral."

"Unfortunately, we arrived just during the period of major repairs, and did not get inside. But we looked at the outside and were very impressed. In the best traditions of Pskov church building.
And we also came across such a wonderful statement!"
Alexander Sitnikov
"The Church of St. Nicholas of Usokha is being revived thanks to the efforts of parishioners and the rector Alexander. I hope we will see it in all its glory."
