"Amazing metro"
Camilo Andres
"Whatever anyone says, we can't do without the metro.
We don't even notice this benefit anymore, but just count how much time it saves! 20 minutes from Kalinin Square to Marx Square!
I recently had the urge to travel without transfers, on a direct bus.
Only this section took almost 2 hours! And the whole route - almost 3 hours...
Yes, there are downsides. Not everything is always as good as we would like, but there is also a very big plus! We are even better in it than the Moscow Metro! This is the payment with PayPass bank cards! In Moscow you can only pay with a transport card, but here - immediately with a bank card! I use it all the time!
I can't live without the Metro) Thank you!"

"People are transported like cattle in carriages manufactured in 1985. The rolling stock is not being updated! New stations for remote areas of Novosibirsk are not being built! But fares are regularly increasing!"

The Novosibirsk Metro: A Siberian Lifeline
Despite its importance, the metro faces challenges. Some users point to the aging rolling stock, with carriages dating back to 1985, and express concern over rising fares without corresponding infrastructure development, such as new stations in underserved areas. The system's operational efficiency is also sometimes questioned, particularly regarding late-night train schedules, which can lead to missed connections for commuters working late shifts.
However, the Novosibirsk Metro also boasts user-friendly features. A standout is the convenient payment system, which allows passengers to pay fares directly with bank cards (PayPass), a feature highly appreciated by locals and a significant convenience compared to systems requiring dedicated transport cards. This blend of historical infrastructure and modern payment solutions makes the Novosibirsk Metro a unique urban experience.
Navigating the Novosibirsk Metro: Practicalities and Perceptions
When it comes to the onboard experience, expect a functional rather than luxurious journey. The trains themselves can be dated, a point of criticism for some. Crowding is a factor, especially during peak hours and around educational institutions like Studentencheskaia station. Be prepared for potential delays, particularly if relying on late-night services, as some users have reported missing connections due to tight schedules.
One aspect that has drawn mixed reactions is the security presence. While security is a standard feature in metro systems, some passengers describe the checks as overly zealous or inconsistently applied, leading to frustration and delays. Despite these points, the metro remains an essential and efficient way to traverse Novosibirsk, offering a glimpse into the daily rhythm of Siberian life and providing a stark contrast to the vastness of the city above ground.
