"Monument to Mikhail Volkov
1968 year of opening
A monument of art of regional significance, included in the Unified State Register of Cultural Heritage Sites (historical and cultural monuments) of the peoples of the Russian Federation.
Created by one of the first professional Kemerovo sculptors G. N. Baranov (he was a member of the Union of Artists since 1958).
The story of Mikhail Volkov inspired the artist so much that for several years he searched for his image: changed details - clothes, hairstyle, poses. As a result, he completed several sculptures, one of which he recognized as the most successful. The current monument was demonstrated at the All-Russian and All-Union exhibitions, and then was donated by the sculptor to his hometown.
A monument to M. Volkov was erected in 1968 opposite the main building of KuzSTU, which trains personnel for the coal industry."
