Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Nekrasov Museum Estate Karabikha for its historical significance, well-preserved manor house, and beautiful natural setting, especially during spring and autumn. However, some express disappointment with the organization of guided tours and the maintenance of the estate grounds, noting issues with path conditions and limited facilities.

"Friendly staff . Easy location. Very well kept."

Irina Korovina

"After the turbulent events of the 20th century, there were few intact noble estates left in Russia. Karabikha is the only palace-type estate that has survived in the Yaroslavl region. It was built by Prince Nikolai Golitsyn in the 18th century, and at the beginning of the 19th century, his son Mikhail rebuilt the estate, giving it the appearance of a small ceremonial palace, which we see today, only earlier 2 side wings were attached to the main house by two-story galleries. In 1861, the estate was bought by the classic of Russian literature - Nikolai Nekrasov, and now Karabikha is associated with him. The poet spent the warm summer months here. In 1875, Nekrasov was in Karabikha for the last time. That same year, he fell seriously ill, he was diagnosed with cancer, and Nekrasov spent the last 2 years of his life in agony, bedridden, but continued to work and write. All this time, the poet was selflessly courted by his last love, Fekla Anisimovna Viktorova, a girl from a simple family. They had been together since 1869, Nekrasov spent a lot of time with her, was involved in her education, came up with a new name for her - Zinaida Nikolaevna, they went hunting together, she helped him with his work. But the poet's relatives did not like Zinaida, and after Nekrasov's death, she refused most of the inheritance in their favor, and the poet's brother did not even let her into Karabikha. All this is told on a tour of the estate. In general, thanks to the tour, you can learn more about the poet, whose poems we all studied at school, but did not know at all as a person. Nekrasov idolized his mother all his life, who suffered greatly from her husband's harsh temper and died early, led a rather complicated personal life, passionately loved hunting, was a very successful publisher of the famous magazine "Sovremennik", played cards professionally, without squandering his fortune, but on the contrary, successfully increasing it. In general, he was an interesting, extraordinary person and, like many geniuses, very contradictory."

"My impressions are mixed. On the one hand, it's a magnificent place with stunning views, ancient estate buildings, ponds, and an estate garden. Again, the very name Nekrasov is intriguing. On the other hand, the organization and upkeep of all this splendor are questionable. There's absolutely no customer focus. We arrived in a group of six, with more arriving all the time. Everyone arrives hoping to take a tour, but then they turn around, stroll around the grounds, and leave. It turns out guided tours are only offered twice a day, and the start time varies each day. Why not organize a group tour as it fills up, with 7-10 people, as is done at other estate complexes?! Now the grounds are neglected. Even the grass along the park paths isn't mown. The paths themselves were once made of brick, but now the brick has crumbled. In some places, the descents and ascents are very steep. There are no wooden stairs, like in Shchelykovo, for example. There are no benches in the park either (a huge problem for the elderly). The park paths themselves aren't covered with either gravel or wood chips, so you have to constantly watch your step. The path from the upper to the lower pond runs through lowland—muddy, with no walkways! The grass is only mown in the immediate vicinity of the manor house. There are no food outlets on the grounds, and there's only one restroom for the entire estate. Even small details like the overgrown grounds and the unmown grass along the path leading from the bus parking lot to the manor complex are noticeable. Disappointing!"
