What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Holy Trinity Cathedral for its immense scale, breathtaking architecture, and richly decorated interior. The impressive unsupported dome is a frequent highlight, alongside the beautiful surrounding park and playground, making it a hit with families. Some note the modern construction, which differs from older historical sites, but its grandeur is undeniable.
"Beautiful , very rich interior , and nice park around with big child playground"
Gabriele Bozzola
"The grandiose Holy Trinity Cathedral. It took a long time to build, from 1786 to 1819. Interestingly, the reason for such a long construction was that the cathedral has a dome with a diameter of 17 meters, installed without any internal supports. Therefore, the construction was suspended for several years due to doubts about the correctness of the design of such a gigantic dome and was resumed only after the architect Ivan Denisovich Yasnygin managed to prove the reliability of the structure. So be sure to visit this very interesting unique cathedral. The unsupported dome of this temple is the first in Russia in size. After the revolution, the cathedral was accordingly closed and destroyed. There was everything in this long-suffering temple, even a menagerie was located in it. During the retreat of the Soviet troops, it was set on fire from the inside so that the Nazis could not use the property of the defense school located in it. Now the cathedral has been restored and renovated, and it amazes with its architecture and interior decoration."

"The city's largest cathedral was built in the early 19th century on the site of the wooden Trinity Church, which had stood since the 16th century, and later, a stone church. Catherine the Great ordered the construction of the new cathedral and allocated funds for it. The cathedral's dome was larger than that of the Kazan Cathedral in St. Petersburg, leading to doubts in the calculations and construction being delayed. However, the dome was eventually completed, and its enormous size is striking. The four-tiered bell tower dominates the old part of the city. The old altar was lost during Soviet times. Now the cathedral boasts a new altar."
