What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral for its breathtaking architecture and spiritual ambiance, calling it a must-see in Sofia. However, some have expressed disappointment with the high prices for candles and the perceived lack of warmth during certain religious ceremonies.
"A very beautiful temple, an adornment of Izhevsk, which is not very rich in architectural delights. It's good that it was restored from the cinema that occupied it. It's cozy and also beautiful inside. A small well-kept area with benches. You can relax, it personally helped me out in the 30-degree heat). Be sure to check out who will be in town"
Kevin Alex
"We chose this cathedral for our child's baptism. We were very disappointed with the level of organization. They don't forget to take donations (in the prescribed amount and in cash, of course), they aggressively "push" the most expensive icons in the church shop, and the priest didn't even deign to get up from his chair during the ceremony. We were greeted with the phrase: "What are you standing there for? Undress the child." The priest spoke indistinctly, mumbled, and spoke rudely to us and the church minister.
The baptism takes place in a dark basement, lasts 15 minutes. It costs 3,000 rubles.
No warmth, sincerity, awe, or holiness. We really regret that we trusted such a church to conduct an important ceremony in the life of our first child. We won't come again."

"Like many churches in the Soviet and post-Soviet space, it fell on hard times; the bell tower and dome were destroyed, but the main building survived. It housed a museum, a cinema, and a children's theater. Now the church has been restored and is open for business."
