"The exhibition "Museum of Furniture>>> Now on Stary Bolshaya Street, in one of the first stone apartment buildings built after the Irkutsk fire in 1879, you can see what the furniture looked like in the old apartments of the natives of Irkutsk, in the houses of merchants and manors about 150 years ago. Among the owners of these furniture are some people who left their mark in the history of Irkutsk and even Russia: the future academician Vladimir Afanasyevich Obruchev, who began his scientific career here as a geologist in the Irkutsk Mining Department; the otolaryngologist Vsevolod Ilyich Strelov, who in three wars brought thousands of sick and wounded back to their feet: these included civilians and soldiers; the master craftsman Wojciech Nikodimovich Koperski designed the interior of the Assumption Cathedral (which Irkutsk residents called the Polish Church); August Karlovich Thomson, a gardener-enthusiast, created a beautiful garden with fruit trees for the city; Sergei Vladimirovich Shostakovich, professor at Irkutsk State University, one of the first oriental sinologists in Irkutsk; painter and graphic artist Pyotr Andreevich Turchaninov, whose talent was recognized only after his death, and finally Innokenty Mikhailovich Portnyagin - the father of a large family, a school teacher, who had time for many hobbies: science, music and photography. You can get to know them from our audio drama "Still Life with a Buffet without a Lion's Head". Our exhibition presents only a small part of the vast collection of more than 500 pieces of furniture. Its acquisition began in the 70s of the 20th century. The collection of objects was first discovered in the early 1980s, when the construction of new branches of the Irkutsk State Joint Museum began: the Volkonsky and Trubetskoy estates, as well as the Taltsy Architectural and Ethnography Museum. This was the result of several ethnographic expeditions to different parts of the region and many years of intensive research in Irkutsk. The objects include things that belonged to Irkutsk residents: merchants, officials, soldiers, workers and employees, as well as things belonging to the elderly people of Angarsk villages and Buryat ulus. The furniture here is what survived from several houses: from pre-revolutionary estates, apartments and furnished rooms, it moved with the owners to solid Soviet pre-war and post-war buildings, and then to large-scale brick and panel houses, which gradually replaced wooden houses in Irkutsk. Some objects lived in one place for a whole century: a sideboard that belonged to lawyer and Irkutsk City Duma deputy Ivan Sergeevich Fateev was purchased in 1989. In 1919 settled with its owner in an apartment on Bolshaya Street and was transferred by his heirs to our exhibition later 104 years old. Many of the buildings where these things once stood are now burned, demolished or dismantled, but the furniture in them still exists. You can learn about our objects in detail from the guided tour and audio guide, or by scanning the QR code next to the object. The exhibition was prepared by: Scientific Argumentation, Main Texts of the Liturgy Stremenetskaya Yu.K., Leontyeva L.V., Voronov I.A., Byrgazova S.A. Artistic Design and Design: Stremenetskaya A.V. Selection of the project: Afanasyev N.I., Ivanov G.L. Restoration of objects: Voronov 10.G. Audio playback "Still life buffet without lion's head""

"I was only in the nature department, so I couldn’t get a full impression. The nature department is not bad, there are two fairly large halls with stuffed animals and other samples of the flora and fauna of the region. I was pleased with the stuffed Pallas's cat indelible."
