What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Memorial of Military Glory Dmitrov to be a well-maintained and historically significant site, reflecting a key moment in post-revolutionary Russia. While the current granite monument is simpler than its predecessor, the landscaped area offers a respectful atmosphere for remembrance.
"The mass grave is a rectangular granite monument erected in memory of the Red Army soldiers who died in these parts in 1918.
In the summer of 1918, a bloody conflict broke out between peasants and Bolsheviks in the village of Rogachevo, during which six Red Army soldiers who had arrived to collect taxes were killed. Outraged by the increase in taxes, the people staged a lynching and reprisal, the victims of which were the detachment commander Nikolai Osipov and five of his subordinates. This historical episode eloquently demonstrates the unstable emotional state that reigned in society in the post-revolutionary years. The monument, crowned with a red star, was erected during the Soviet era, dismantled in 2005, after which a more modest memorial in the form of a granite stone appeared in its place."

"Previously, the monument was different. On it were the names of all the fallen. Now this is just a plate to "events"."

Historical Context
Originally, a more elaborate monument stood at this site, bearing the names of all the fallen soldiers. However, this monument was dismantled in 2005. It was subsequently replaced by the current, more modest memorial: a granite stone. This change in monument reflects evolving historical interpretations and memorialization practices. Despite the alteration, the site continues to serve as a place for reflection on this significant historical episode and the sacrifices made during that era.
Visiting and Reflection
While the current monument is a granite stone, it's important for visitors to understand that it replaced a previous structure that listed the names of the fallen. This historical detail adds another layer to the memorial's narrative. The site is generally visited by those interested in local history and military memorials, and it remains a place of quiet remembrance.
