What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Iași Central Railway Station is a place of contrasts, with a well-regarded exterior architecture that unfortunately doesn't extend to its interior. While functional for train travel, visitors often note the station's dated, noisy, and dirty conditions, along with a significant lack of amenities like food and drink options. It's a station that serves its purpose but offers little in terms of comfort or a welcoming atmosphere.
"The building looks very nice from the outside however when you go inside it is a bit noisy and dirty. However this station has never been bad and always displays the trains well so very nice indeed!"

"A train station is usually the calling card of a city, and this station accurately reflects the true state of Iași. It has barely changed in over 30 years—and that’s not a compliment. There's little to expect from a deliberately bankrupt national railway service, and this station clearly illustrates the current reality. If you visit in winter, the experience is even more depressing. Not to mention, passengers literally have to cross the tracks to reach the other platform. Meaning that there is only one other platform.
Services are practically nonexistent. Forget about coffee shops or food inside the station. There is something resembling a snack stand if you know where to look, but I wouldn’t recommend it to visitors from abroad. If you're hoping for a treat, you’ll be sorely disappointed. It’s best to eat before arriving at the station to avoid the complete lack of decent food options within a radius of more than 1 km.
This is a harsh slap in the face to the citizens of Iași, courtesy of both the local authorities and CFR. Moreover, CFR keeps an entire depot next to this station that looks like a mix between a jungle and a cemetery for abandoned train carriages. I’d say shame on them, but they seem to have no concept of shame or civility."

The Station's Character: A Tale of Two Halves
The interior, in contrast, tells a different story. Many reviews highlight a less than ideal experience, describing the inside as 'noisy and dirty.' The infrastructure appears to have seen little to no modernization over the past three decades, leading to a stark and somewhat depressing atmosphere, especially during winter months. This lack of upkeep is often attributed to the broader challenges faced by the national railway service, CFR.
For travelers, this means managing expectations. While the station serves its primary purpose of facilitating train travel, it offers minimal comfort or convenience. The absence of typical station amenities like cafes or shops is a recurring point of feedback, underscoring the need for visitors to be self-sufficient regarding food and drink before their arrival.
Navigating the Station and Surrounding Area
However, the immediate vicinity of the station offers little in terms of services. As noted, finding decent food options within walking distance is a challenge. Travelers are strongly advised to plan their meals before reaching the station to avoid disappointment. This lack of nearby amenities is a significant factor to consider when planning your arrival or departure, especially if you have a layover or are arriving late.
For those interested in the railway's operational side, the presence of a CFR depot nearby, described as a 'jungle and a cemetery for abandoned train carriages,' adds a unique, albeit somber, visual element to the station's surroundings. While not a typical tourist attraction, it offers a glimpse into the realities of the national railway infrastructure.
