Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Antiguo Acueducto de Ponce to be a beautiful and historically significant roadside attraction, offering a unique glimpse into Puerto Rico's past. While some note its potential for great photos, others caution about its location in a residential area with potential safety concerns like stray dogs and the advisability of climbing the weathered structure. Reddit

"The gate was closed off when I got there this morning, but was able to go in and take a look around while I was there."

Tito Castillo

"I really enjoyed roadside side attraction but especially if they play historical landscapes. Street parking but takes a few minutes to admire the acueductos, i spent 20 minutes to appreciate."

Brenda Monroy-Felipe -Realtor

"This aqueduct is beautiful! I came here with a friend of mine to do a unique photo shoot. Since we were staying about 15 minutes down the street, near the main square, we figured we’d walk.

If you choose to do this, I highly recommend not walking up Calle Leon. We ran into a large aggressive pack of dogs that felt like we were invading their territory (which we technically were). I have experience and informal training with this sort of thing, so I thankfully I was able to navigate us carefully and respectfully through the pack, before we made it onto a parallel street that was thankfully, much more safe.

In regards to the locals, always keep in mind you are walking through a neighborhood. Be as respectful as you would if you were in a library or a church. If you see someone near you, greet them in Spanish if you can. I am not a native speaker but I try to let people know that I am not a tourist—that I’m simply a traveler, entering their residential space with respect and dignity.

In regards to the aqueduct itself, if you see the gate is closed, do not worry. The gate is just closed to prevent cars from driving through.

The structure itself is stunning and well-worn from the elements. I didn’t try to walk up to the top of it, seeing as how it’s weathered a century of hurricanes, earthquakes, and who knows what else. Climb it at your own risk, but I’m not trying to die a “Final Destination” sort of death."
