Reviews Summary

Playa Sucia is a stunning, secluded beach with dramatic cliffs and a picturesque lighthouse, offering a rewarding experience for those willing to make the trek. While the walk can be challenging and seaweed can sometimes be an issue, the natural beauty and calm waters are frequently praised. Visitors appreciate the rustic charm and the sense of discovery, though some express disappointment with access limitations and seasonal conditions.

"Unfortunately we couldn’t enjoy the beach as it was full of algae.
The walk there was pretty nice if you like nature and don’t mind the heat. It’s about 30 min walk from the parking. You can see many birds like pelicans and smaller animals like hermit crabs. It’s a bird paradise, we just don’t know enough birds. There are some smaller cliffs just before getting to the beach. And an old light house that is pretty to look at. If you are adventurous you’ll probably like it. Don’t forget a sun hat, water and sunglasses."

"Cars are not allowed after a gate so you have to walk a lot to get to the lighthouse and somehow to the beach which we didn't go because it was so hot and after getting to the lighthouse we were exhausted. Plus you got to think of the walk back to your vehicle. It is very disappointing that there are parking signs and you have to walk all that. Why are cats not allowed inside??? The entrance to the beach before parking is nasty, I see why is called playa sucia. Now, we didn't get to the actual beach but someone said it was full of seaweed so maybe if you come another time, you could see the "beautiful" beach."

"Unfortunately, during our trip, the beach was unusablely covered in seaweed. The walk wouldn’t have been bad if we got to cool off in the water at the beach, but walking 50 minutes straight in the heat for nothing was rough. The salt flats were cool but not worth the drive. I can see it would be very beautiful if not for the seaweed."

Navigating the Access Road

The journey to Playa Sucia is part of the adventure. The paved road ends, and a rough, unpaved section begins. Many visitors find that their rental cars are not suitable for this terrain, leading to a walk of about a mile from the parking area to the beach. InstagramReddit Some travelers have reported that the road can be washed out, further necessitating a hike. It's wise to wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for this trek, especially if you're not in a 4x4 vehicle. Instagram

This walk, while potentially tiring, offers a chance to appreciate the surrounding landscape, including the expansive salt flats. It also means that Playa Sucia often feels more secluded and less crowded than more easily accessible beaches. The effort to get there is often rewarded with a more pristine and tranquil experience. TikTokReddit

Understanding Seaweed Conditions

One of the most frequently mentioned factors affecting the Playa Sucia experience is the presence of seaweed. Travelers have noted that the seaweed can be particularly dense near the entry point of the beach, sometimes accompanied by a noticeable odor. Reddit If a pristine, seaweed-free beach is a top priority, it's advisable to check recent visitor photos or reviews for current conditions before making the journey. Despite this potential issue, many still find the surrounding landscape and the lighthouse views to be worthwhile. Instagram
