Hey guys, how can we get from Porto to Regua by boat? Where do the boats take off from? Should we book tickets in advance? We would like to go experience the Douro river cruise independently, without booking with a travel agency. Help please.

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Travelers consistently praise the breathtaking vineyard scenery and the unique experience of navigating Douro River dams. The onboard service and food are often highlighted as excellent, with generous portions. Some note that meals can be repetitive on longer trips, and short boat rides might feel rushed.
"It was a fantastic day, service on board is actually better than most 4 star hotels ! Not to mention the amount of food and beverage from breakfast till lunch time. You guys were great. We loved while being on the outside deck the classic rock eighties hits on the speakers which wasn't too loud, it brought in this extra vibe, I even dozed off for about 20 minutes since everybody was so chilled. Not to mention the scenery , landscapes etc Also Zita was great over the phone helping us book this amazing cruise; Obrigado!"

"The 3 day Douro River Valley cruise I experienced in June 2025 was wonderful! Our guide was informative, friendly, multi-lingual and pleasant! The vessel taking us from Porto was very nice and food was good. Our bus driver was skilled at his job navigating narrow streets and highways. The hotel we stayed in was excellent and food there was as well. And excursions to historical sights and Quintas (wineries) were terrific. The only complaint I have is that each lunch and dinner we experienced, either on the boat, at the hotel or at the Quintas, were all basically the same, the traditional Portuguese meal of soup, potatoes, stewed cabbage with carrot and a roasted meat. The meal also generally included olives, bread and little bits of grilled sausages as appetizers plus fruit for desert and wine. Don’t misunderstand me please, each meal was delicious and a lot of food however it was basically the identical meal again and again! Meals need to vary one from the other. On the last day we went on a 1 hour boat ride which was a waste of time actually. We had to spend more time waiting, boarding and disembarking than the little boat ride took. All that said I highly recommend this 3 day cruise as it was fun, beautiful, informative and a good value!"
