Stunning scenic outlook being so up high, from all angles and so much history to absorb. Highly recommend! "Castle of Mértola

Type: castle
Current price: free
WC: located outside of the castle
Path for disabled: not available
Parking: available, small
Bike parking: not available
Public transport: Redexpressos bus, Rodoviária do Alentejo bus + 15 min walk

Medieval castle built during the Islamic period. It was particularly rebuilt after the Reconquista, so the architecture is a combination of different styles. Next to it are more ancient ruins. Also, within the tower is a small museum with medieval items."

Oleh Shpytko

"If you happen to be passing through then it is a worth a wander round the castle. As the views are good, looking in both directions along the Guadiana river and the town. Although it's not as spectacular as the castle at Beja."
