Now in our sixties, my longstanding hiking friend and I experienced some unforgettable walking whilst completing three stages of this superb long distance trail. Walking the stages from Barranco de Velho, Salir, Alte and St Bartolomeu, travelling with a small pack, we stayed at some excellent and unique accommodation along the way. April seemed a perfect time to visit, both in terms of weather and also flowers, scents and landscape. Over three days of walking we met one mountain-biker and two fellow hikers!
