What Travellers Say

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the Laurisilva's unique, ancient atmosphere, often described as mystical and otherworldly, especially when shrouded in fog. The fresh, bay leaf scent and the availability of picnic areas with ovens are frequently praised. However, some visitors express disappointment with litter, particularly shards and bottle caps, detracting from the natural beauty.

"Beautiful place, but for a trip with a small child, it is completely ruined by the fact that every square meter is covered with shards or metal bottle caps. I can't understand how people can be so careless and degrade the landscape like this."

Tomáš Jindra

"This place has the most amazing smell, Bay leaf in their most fresh way you may found the, their trees...not only that, I came with people from the area we brought meat, and grill it on the trees branches just salt on them but it was so flavorful you may think it had been marinated, even thought it was cloudy and a bit rainy, we did it on a space under a roof, set to accommodate a big party or for two.
Been a few days before and on a sunny day, there were some families, kids were playing around with dogs and felt so comforting, ideal place to come as a family as well."

Zuly T

"Gorgeous park with a number of picnic areas (tables and outdoor ovens). It includes a large wide-open level field (a rarity for Madeira) as well as private areas for your own family outing. There's parking along the highway for several dozen cars. Trail PR22 starts and ends here, and this is the best place to access it. The vegetation is gorgeous, consisting of the famous Madeira laural trees."

This UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the largest surviving areas of this ancient vegetation, found primarily between 1000 and 5000 feet in elevation. TikTokInstagram The forest is characterized by its dense canopy, high humidity, and a rich diversity of plant species, including various types of laurel trees, ferns, and mosses. Its unique ecosystem supports a variety of endemic species, making it a crucial area for biodiversity conservation. Instagram

Many visitors describe the forest as feeling like stepping into another world, especially when enveloped in its characteristic mist. Instagram This ancient forest is not just a visual spectacle but also an olfactory delight, with a distinct, fresh bay leaf scent. Reddit
