Going to the market can be a mini adventure! It can be intimidating to walk into a space where no one speaks your language. Lady Nidderdale is becoming accustomed to visiting the Braga Municipal Market several times a week. It’s about 200 meters from our apartment so we pop in almost daily. The vendors speak very little English so it’s going to be a bit of an adventure until we get basic Por...

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the Braga Municipal Market's vibrant atmosphere, diverse offerings, and stunning modern architecture. It's praised as a lively hub for fresh produce, delicious food options in its upstairs hall, and a beautiful space to explore. While generally positive, some note that cash is preferred by many vendors.

"I have been to many city markets in Europe and MENA...this one is the most vibrant and diverse...we visited it on Saturday 19 April 2025 and it was buzzing...they sell local produce (flowers, veg, plants, seedlings, trees, eggs and live poultry....)"

Julia Kane

"The place to go for local produce, seafood, flowers, pottery, breads, pastries, and more. Our hosts had their favorite vendor. Dining area above. Great place to fine something unique, as well as everyday shopping."

Darrell Hugueley

"I love this Braga city market, in it's new-ish setting, almost two years old in August.

Beautiful, sky-lit setting with lots of room for vendors and shoppers.

There's also a food market for lunch, coffee, snacks, or breakfast from multiple vendors with lots of indoor and outdoor seating, both upstairs and downstairs.

Public restrooms are to the right of the food vendors.

There's an info desk with people working and I've seen security as well as cleaning staff.

I usually get over to the Mercado at least three or four times each week to shop for fresh produce, nuts, pastries, and bread.

We've also eaten lunch here, enjoyed a glass of wine and worked for a couple of hours in the seating area, and taken food to go.

Thursday morning and especially Saturday morning are the days with the most vendors and full stock.

Bring your shopping bags, peruse your options, and support farmers by shopping local. Some of the vendors take credit card, but most are cash only.

Highly recommend. Drop by even if you're only visiting Braga for a day or so and pick up a snack.

I always shop farmers markets (inside or out) no matter where I travel and this is one of the loveliest buildings I've seen for a market.

5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐"
