What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Amieira Marina offers a unique experience with its license-free houseboat rentals on the vast Grande Lago. Visitors praise the stunning lake views and the freedom of exploring the water. However, concerns have been raised about the maintenance and safety of some houseboats, as well as inconsistent dining experiences at the marina's restaurant.
"This is one of the only privately owned marinas throughout the great Alqueva Lake. The amenities are pretty good, nice mooring spots with water and electricity.
The small restaurant was anything but good, specially at breakfast hours as they didn’t even had any cakes nor pastries . This is something rather disappointing as the only thing we could get was a coffee and a toast.
Fuel pump was not functioning and it’s kind of a bother as this is the only place to refuel all over Alqueva. If you are planning to use this as a refuel stop, think again as you will bump into a wall.
The view from their terrace is quite nice and extends for a few miles downstream.
Something rather annoying, is that we came across several boat rentals from Amieira with no boating experience. In a strong regulated maritime country like Portugal, this seems rather unlikely that anyone can navigate with such vessels without proper licensing. I guess this is where corruption probably comes in place and special authorizations are granted for the benefit of a corporation.
Furthermore, I took the liberty of shooting some pictures at amieira rental boats using navigation Aids/ floating signals as Anchorage or mooring points.
This is not only stupid but a danger to other vessels traveling through Alqueva.
Maybe something to look upon and brief all your customers on ! Not a bad idea indeed.
Well
2nd try"

"We got a 2 person houseboat. There was no safety briefing on life vests, what to do in emergency. Those vests were in a mess, bad condition, and hidden under the seat. According to Luiz, the manager, there is no such briefing requirement . That should be illegal!!!
Equipment -
1) the GPS and sonar were so small, and impossible to read in the sun. In the end, we used our Google maps from our phone.
2) towels , bedsheets- were worn out , tiny and look really disgusting.
3) pillows- they were so bad I did not sleep all night. It’s so cheap quality it’s not even funny.
4) Crockery - they used cheap, cracked water mugs , and Glasses! This is a boat and I’ve sailed on so many in my life. No one uses glasses. Of course, within 4 mins , a GNR sped past us and all the wine glasses smashed! Unbelievable!
5) toilet- good for peeing but if you need to do big business, it does not flush. We tried and it was just disgusting
6) oven- it was a gas oven and gas hob. Never seen a boat use fire! Isn’t this an international safety requirement?
The oven does not work properly and burnt half our pizza and the other half didn’t cook .
Overall, I strongly feel this company should have its licence revoked . I also saw that the fire extinguishers were from 2017, so in event of fire - good luck to you!
This one day charter costs €360, excluding fuel . I expected much more but this co does not deserve to be in business at all.
Problem is - there is no competition from other house boats, so they really don’t care to upgrade their equipment nor navigation and safety systems.
I will be forwarding this review to red complaint book and the authorities. I would hate to see any accident happen where lives are lost or families hurt !!"

"Fantastic marina and facilities. All very clean and looked after. The cafe food and drinks were good and did not over charge for tourists. Tiago, the marina manager was a top bloke and very helpful. Amazing location and good parking for cars."
