What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Zalipie is praised for its unique and beautiful folk art, with visitors captivated by the hand-painted floral decorations on houses and other structures. The museum offers valuable historical context. However, some find the village spread out, with only a fraction of houses painted, and public transport can be challenging, especially on weekends.
"Not worth it! 4 houses painted and not even close to each other. Traveled 1.30 hours from Kraków to visit the village with "painted houses ".. I thought I would walk among painted houses in a small village.. the truth is 4-5 houses are painted and there are no small streets etc to walk on.. one house is beautiful, but not worth the trouble to see one house for 10 minutes.."

"Zalipie is Polands Painted village. There is a small museum, a drive/walk through the village where you can observe the gorgeous painted houses, barns, wells, bee hives etc. I especially enjoyed the museum where there are three buildings you can visit and have the history explained to you about the ladies of the village and why they began to paint the houses and how the tradition is kept alive today. The lady who did the tour at the museum kindly spoke a little bit English as well as Polish so we got to understand a little bit more about the tradition. You can also visit the church in Zalipie which has also been ‘painted’ with the flowers of the village. It was all the more special because we visited in late September and it was still warm and sunny. I loved it and I’m totally inspired with Folk Art."

"Cute little village, but very out-of-the-way. We enjoyed our time there, got some great photos. Only a fraction of houses are painted. We were 4 minutes late for start of Museum tour and although no one else was there; no tour in progress, we were told we had to wait 30 minutes for next tour time. We did not so can’t comment on that. It was on our way during a road trip but if you are not in the area make sure you have an extra day to spend driving to Zalipe."
