Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Rotating Footbridge as a unique engineering marvel and a symbol of Ustka, especially beautiful at sunset. However, many find the limited 20-minute hourly pedestrian access frustrating, leading to long waits and questioning its practicality when ships aren't actively passing.

"We crossed the bridge only to be stuck on the other end, as only when trying to return 20 mins later we noticed the signs that it’s only open for pedestrians once every hour and is otherwise rotated 90 degrees for ships to pass. But during waiting there forever we haven’t seen a single ship passing, only hundreds of people waiting to cross. So I’m not sure why anyone would build a bridge if they don’t plan on letting people use it accordingly. Apart from that it’s a cool engineering feat, nice to watch with kids as they open and close it. But fails to work for what it’s supposed to be."

"The revolving footbridge in Ustka connects the eastern and western parts of the city, separated by the mouth of the Słupia River. This several-ton drawbridge linked the two shores of the port, improving communication within the city.

The opening of the passage takes about 5 minutes and occurs every full hour at 20 minutes past the hour. The pedestrian bridge quickly became a part of Ustka's port panorama, becoming a symbol of Ustka and one of its tourist attractions.

The Ustka footbridge is the only structure of its kind in Poland and Europe."

MIRELA GM

"A modern but already managed to become a symbol of the city object. Especially beautiful at sunset. You just have to keep in mind that the pedestrian bridge opens only 20 minutes per hour. I recommend seeing it."

It's the only structure of its kind in Poland and Europe, making it a significant landmark. The bridge's ability to rotate 90 degrees is crucial for maintaining the flow of both foot traffic and ship passage in the busy port.

This innovative design ensures that the port remains functional without compromising pedestrian access between the eastern and western parts of Ustka. The mechanism is robust, capable of moving the several-ton structure smoothly. Visitors often express fascination with this unique functionality, seeing it as more than just a bridge but a dynamic part of the port's daily operations. Reddit+1

The engineering marvel is a testament to creative urban planning and a popular subject for photographs and tourist admiration. Reddit

Understanding the Pedestrian Access Schedule

A key aspect of visiting the Rotating Footbridge is understanding its unique operating schedule. Unlike conventional bridges, this one prioritizes maritime traffic, meaning pedestrian access is restricted. This schedule can sometimes lead to unexpected waits for visitors who are not aware of it. Some travelers have noted being stuck on one side, only to discover the limited crossing times. It's advisable to check the exact schedule upon arrival or consult local information points to plan your crossing effectively. This ensures you can experience the bridge's functionality without unnecessary delays. Reddit

Despite the potential for waiting, many visitors find the experience worthwhile. The opportunity to witness the bridge in action, even if it means a short wait, adds to the unique charm of the attraction. It's a reminder of the dynamic nature of port life and the clever solutions employed to manage it. Reddit
