Reviews Summary

Virgin Island is celebrated for its stunning sandbar and crystal-clear waters, offering a picturesque paradise for photos and swimming. However, visitors should be prepared for crowds and potential overpricing of food and services, making it crucial to clarify costs upfront and check tide times for the best experience.

"It is beautiful sand bar . Water is clear. Picture perfect. Its crowded once most tour boats stop here. Be sure to bring money for the environmental fee. Also hats and sun protection. There is no shade here at all. We enjoyed walking along the sand, be mindful of the starfish and sea urchin. Wear watershoes. I am glad no more vendors here."

Aimee Lim

"Strip of sand land in the middle of the ocean. You can take pics under the Virgin island sign and walk around the sand, look for starfish. We found a very big one. Very crowded, with all the tour boats. Cant really walk further away from the sandland as it is too rocky, need to have watershoes on. If you are on a tour you are also taken to another island close to it, where you can eat and snorkle, but eating out here and rent snorkeling equipment is pricey...:) Also, make sure you check with your tourguide whether all the snorkeling equipment is in the price or nothing is. And there are entry fees also to pay for some of these islands.. they might try to charge you separately...Here I got a Bali feeling... they make you pay for everything separetely... to breathe in, to hold, and for exhale.... - keep in mind ... :D"

"cute island stop at the middle of the sea. nothing much to see though. just a strip of land. a bit rocky and full of starfishes, mind you. we only stayed for about 20mins and went off somewhere near the panglao reef to do snorkeling."

Tailored advice for your travel style

👨‍👩‍👧 Families with Kids

Virgin Island offers a unique experience for families, especially with its shallow, clear waters perfect for little ones to splash around in. In-depth insights and expert knowledge

Understanding the Tide: Your Key to Virgin Island

Virgin Island's magic lies in its ephemeral nature. It's not a permanent island but a sandbar that emerges from the sea during low tide. This phenomenon is crucial for planning your visit. Without checking the tide charts, you risk arriving to find only water where the iconic white sand should be.Instagram The sandbar can stretch for a considerable distance, creating a surreal pathway in the middle of the ocean, perfect for leisurely strolls and unforgettable photographs.

To make the most of your trip, consult local tide tables or ask your boatman about the predicted low tide times. Aim to arrive during these periods to fully experience the island's beauty. The sand is soft and white, contrasting beautifully with the clear, shallow turquoise waters. Remember that there is no natural shade on the sandbar, so sun protection is paramount.Reddit

Pro Tip: Many visitors recommend wearing water shoes not only for comfort on the sand but also to protect your feet from any sharp shells, rocks, or sea urchins that might be present in the shallow waters.Reddit This simple precaution can significantly enhance your enjoyment of the island.

Navigating Tour Costs and Value

While Virgin Island offers stunning scenery, it's essential to be aware of potential cost concerns. Several travelers have noted instances of overpriced food and services on the island, leading to a feeling of being nickel-and-dimed.TikTokReddit+1 This is particularly true for food sold at the temporary stalls that pop up when the sandbar is visible.

To avoid unexpected expenses, it's highly recommended to clarify all costs upfront with your tour operator. This includes the boat rental, environmental fees, snorkeling gear rental, and any meals. Some tours might bundle these, while others charge them separately. Understanding what is included in your package will help you budget effectively and prevent any unpleasant surprises.Reddit

Community Advice: Many Redditors suggest comparing prices from different tour providers before booking. While the allure of a spontaneous booking is strong, a little research can ensure you get good value for your money. Consider whether a group tour or a private hire best suits your budget and desired experience. Some also recommend bringing your own snacks and drinks to supplement any meals purchased on the island.Reddit

Island Hopping Essentials: Beyond Virgin Island

Virgin Island is often part of a larger island hopping itinerary in Bohol, typically combined with visits to Balicasag Island and sometimes dolphin watching excursions.TikTokInstagramReddit Balicasag Island is renowned for its excellent snorkeling and diving spots, offering a chance to see vibrant coral reefs and a diverse array of marine life. Many tours include a stop here for snorkeling or diving before or after visiting Virgin Island.

Dolphin watching usually takes place early in the morning, as pods of dolphins are most active during these hours. This often means an early start to your island hopping day. The boat rides between these locations offer scenic views of the Bohol coastline and the surrounding turquoise waters.TikTok

Traveler Tip: When booking your island hopping tour, inquire about the specific inclusions for each stop. For instance, ask if snorkeling gear is provided at Balicasag Island or if it incurs an extra charge. This ensures you're fully prepared for the day's adventures and can make the most of each destination.Reddit
