What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Blue Lagoon is praised for its stunning natural beauty, featuring clear turquoise waters and white sandy beaches, making it a picturesque tropical escape. However, some visitors note a decline in its upkeep, with reports of litter and abandoned establishments, leading to a less pristine experience than in its heyday. The strong waves can be both a thrill and a challenge for swimmers.
"The Blue Lagoon in Pagudpud is such a beautiful spot with clear waters and relaxing vibes. The beach is perfect for swimming and unwinding, with a great view of the sea and surrounding greenery. What I also liked is that there are many souvenir shops nearby, so it’s easy to buy pasalubong and keepsakes after enjoying the beach. 🌊🏖️🛍️"

"Pagudpud's Blue Lagoon is a masterpiece of nature: blinding white sands, crystal-clear waters in vibrant hues of blue, and a skyline dominated by majestic windmills - uniquely Ilocos.
Facing the open sea, the strong winds craft larger-than-life waves, a thrilling invitation for beach lovers to frolic and tumble in the surf. No worries, the fine white sands ensure a soft landing, making every fall a playful memory.
The beach stretches endlessly, perfect for sunbathing and long walks, while nearby establishments offer showers and delicious food for a complete beach experience.
Overall, a must-visit paradise, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty and joyful adventure."

"Stunning beach, very beautiful, perfect swimming beach and we have a wonderful time, not a lot of people when we went there. No trees or shades at the beach when its hot and sunny. There's restaurants and cottages for rent down the road. We asked how much is the cottage, the woman said its 1,000pesos. Its because she saw my husband is a foreigner. Its only 2 of us and I said we will be there for only an hour, she said OK 600pesos. Ridiculous. So corrupt. Even the transients and accommodation is expensive."

The Changing Face of Blue Lagoon
Despite these concerns, the natural beauty of the lagoon remains undeniable. The vibrant blue hues of the water and the expansive white sand are still captivating. The surrounding lush green hills and the majestic windmills on the coastline add to its unique charm. The strong winds that face the open sea can create impressive waves, offering a thrilling experience for those who enjoy playing in the surf.
Travelers are advised to manage expectations and perhaps visit during off-peak times to potentially experience a more serene and less crowded atmosphere. While the infrastructure may have seen better days, the inherent beauty of Blue Lagoon continues to draw visitors seeking a tropical escape in the northernmost tip of Ilocos Norte.
Navigating the Waves and Weather
However, these strong currents and waves might not be ideal for casual swimmers, especially families with young children. It's crucial to assess the conditions upon arrival and exercise caution. If swimming is your priority and you prefer calmer waters, it might be worth checking local weather forecasts or inquiring with locals about the typical wave patterns during your visit. Despite the potential for rough seas, the sheer beauty of the water's color and the dramatic coastline make it a worthwhile destination, even if swimming isn't always the main activity.
The Road to Paradise: Travel Tips
For those who prefer not to drive the entire stretch, flying into Laoag City is a viable alternative. From Laoag, you can then take a bus or a van to Pagudpud. Once in Pagudpud, local transportation like tricycles or habal-habal (motorcycle taxis) are readily available to take you to the Blue Lagoon itself. Planning your transportation in advance can help ensure a smoother journey to this northern gem.
