Planning Your Visit

Timing is Key for the Sardine Run

While the sardines are present year-round, early mornings (6-8 AM) offer the best visibility and fewer crowds. Afternoon visits might mean the schools retreat further out, and currents can be stronger. Plan your visit to coincide with peak daylight for the most spectacular shimmering effect.

Guides and Gear Essentials

Hiring a local guide is often required and highly recommended, especially for non-swimmers. They assist with safety and help you get the best photos/videos. Renting a GoPro is popular for capturing the experience, but book with local shops, not hotels, for better prices (around 600 PHP).

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently rave about the breathtaking spectacle of the sardine run, describing it as a 'magical' and 'unforgettable' experience. The opportunity to swim alongside millions of shimmering sardines and encounter sea turtles is a major highlight. While the sheer volume of fish is universally praised, some mention that water clarity can vary, and non-swimmers might find the experience challenging without adequate guidance.

"There is absolutely NO RESPECT for the environment. The place is overcrowded with tourists, and even the guides and instructors encourage people to surround marine wildlife, step on the corals, and feed the fish.

The conservation of the area is nonexistent. Urgent measures are needed to protect this fragile environment, and we as tourists play a crucial role in its preservation.

Truly a shame."

POLOLOS

"Absolutely breathtaking experience. The guides are really helpful too as they helped us, who weren't very good at swimming.

The sardines are right there by the beach, in thousands, and look incredibly majestic as they all move together. It's not technically a sardine run, as they live there, but you shouldn't care.

I recommend going there during bright daylight (in the afternoon) so that you can see the loghts being reflected off the fishes' bodies."

Devanshu Somani

"The best place you could every see such a spectacular underwater sardine scenery. You should try scuba diving or free diving or even snorkelling at least. The water wasnt the clearest when se did the dive but amazing spot to dive and see hundreds of thousands of sardines

Spot a turtle or two as well!!"
