What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Malinao Beach is praised for its long, calm shoreline and free access, offering a peaceful escape near General Luna. However, many visitors find it less suitable for swimming due to shallow waters and abundant seaweed, with some noting concerns about beach cleanliness.
"A long stretch of calmness.
It’s free and it’s situated near a not-so busy road.
I went here early in the morning so I was there alone, except a few locals staying/working there.
There were about 4 dogs that I’ve met as I walked along the shore. I love dogs yet, sharing it for awareness in case you fear them."

"It does have a sandy seabed in portions of the beach, otherwise sea grass , seaweed and some rocks here and there. As it’s totally dry during low tide, we tried at high tide morning and evening. Both times it’s still very shallow, maybe just above waist deep (I’m 165 cm). Both times full of seaweed and lightly scattered foam, which makes it seem like the water is not clean. Morning is better, water a little cooler, but after rain it is full of foam. The afternoon is more densely populated with seaweed and particles , and warm (in May), so feels like bath water. It’s not for swimming. Felt like swimming in a warm soup. The water is clear, but not blue because of all the seaweed. You have to walk through a dense mass of seaweed when entering the water. It’s a shame as the location and the village area are quaint and lovely."

"This video was a little further down but wouldn't say this beach is that great. Beach was empty and water was covered in what I assume was leaves. Weather wasn't good when we visited so it may have been that. Recommendation - find another beach or spot for a swim"

Understanding Malinao Beach's Water Conditions
While the sandy seabed is present in parts, the overall experience for swimming might be disappointing for those expecting deep, clear blue waters. It's important to manage expectations and view Malinao Beach more as a place for relaxation, scenic walks, and enjoying the coastal ambiance rather than a prime swimming destination.
For those seeking a refreshing dip, it's advisable to explore other beaches in Siargao or visit Malinao during times when seaweed is less prevalent, though this can be unpredictable. The beauty of Malinao lies in its tranquility and the picturesque coastline, which can still be thoroughly enjoyed even without swimming.
The 'Secret Beach' Experience
Travelers note that while the beach itself is free, a small parking fee of P20 is typically charged for motorcycles. It's a place where you can enjoy solitude, especially if you visit early in the morning. Some visitors have also mentioned the presence of friendly local dogs, adding to the charm of the experience.
It's important to note that bringing food onto the Secret Beach itself might be prohibited, though food stalls are available nearby. This spot is perfect for those looking to escape the crowds and find a quiet corner of Siargao to relax and soak in the natural beauty.
Malinao Beach as a Property Hotspot

This makes Malinao an area to watch for those interested in Siargao's growing tourism infrastructure, offering a blend of accessibility and coastal charm that is highly sought after.
