A VISIT TO THE ANACONDA CRAFT MARKET One of the main areas where tourists come to buy handicrafts in Iquitos is the Anaconda Artisan Association. It has a great location near the Plaza de Armas. Several dozen vendors have stalls along 3 sides of the wooden structure built on stilts to keep it above rainy season floods from the nearby Itaya River. Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Anaconda Craft Market a great place for affordable souvenirs and authentic handicrafts, with friendly vendors and a vibrant atmosphere. While some note the market could benefit from better organization, the opportunity to haggle and support local artisans is a significant draw. It's a worthwhile stop for anyone looking to take a piece of Iquitos home.

"You can haggle here. For reference here is what I bought. 3 "vine medication" necklaces for 70 soles. I feel I could have done 60 soles. Feel free to use the tactic of "I only have this much spending money left" and pull out x amount from your pocket. Of course be sure to hide the rest of your cash else where so they can't see it. If that sounds too deceitful remember this, if they accept your price, their profit margins are still absolutely bonkers high. If they don't accept your price it means that you negotiated like a jerk and now they don't like you or you've hit their floor."

"There's plenty of souvenirs and great deals to be found. Vendors were quite friendly. Some speak a little English. I went on a Sunday morning and there was not much traffic. This place needs more business and support. I'm sure it would help the local community."
