What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Taboga Island offers a convenient island escape from Panama City with affordable food and a charming, flower-filled atmosphere. While it's a popular spot for locals, especially on weekends, weekday visits provide a more relaxed experience. Some visitors note that the beaches can be crowded and occasionally affected by cleanliness issues, but the overall picturesque setting and local vibe make it a worthwhile day trip for many.
"This was an interesting experience but nowhere close to as nice as our time in the San Blas islands. Actually, it is a very different experience in a more developed area with okay, but not great, beaches.
We were there on a Sunday, so it was very crowded. We were not able to catch the Taboga Express Ferry, so we took a chance with a privateer (along with a dozen others) and took a small boat across. It was not a bad ride on the way out, but chop and wind on the way back made it very wet.
This is where local Panamanians come to picnic for the day, so there's lots of food and drink vendors and prices are very reasonable, especially for Panamanian beer.
The place was very picturesque and it was worth the trip but will not be hurrying back."

"Great beach island about 25 minute ferry ride from Panama City. Worth a visit for sure. Drinks were fairly cheap also. Just watch those thieving little birds, they were stealing everyone’s food and drink when they went for a dip in the water."

"Charming island. Do not go on weekends, it will be too crowded. Absolutely go on a weekday.
Very very easy to get to (easier than going to the Pacific beaches imo), you just take a ferry from the end of the Causeway. I went with Taboga Express, lots of available departures and only a 30min ride.
The island had very good walkways, was clean and full of flowers, and I saw no garbage. You can rent parasols, chairs, and use of bathroom/showers. There are numerous places for finger food or fish close to the beach area.
My suggestion for you: take the last ferry (3pm) and arrange a hotel overnight. When you get to the island, the day trippers will be already packing up to leave. Then you will have the beach to yourself in the afternoon, as well as early in the morning the next day before the ferry arrives. Leave around 11 or 1. The only difficult part might be finding a place for dinners or drink. It's a very sleepy town. But hotel Vereda Tropical serves dinner from 630 to 830pm."
