What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning natural beauty of the Musandam fjords and the magical experience of seeing dolphins up close. The historical significance of Telegraph Island adds a unique dimension to the trip, with many praising the dhow cruise experience, including the scenery, food, and overall adventure.
"I visited Telegraph Island and had the chance to go snorkeling here. While it can be a bit hard to spot many fish on your own, once bread is dropped from the boats, plenty of fish do appear, which makes it more fun.
The real highlight, however, isn’t just the snorkeling but the dolphins. I saw so many of them during the trip — they came very close to the boat and even swam alongside as we were moving. Watching them play in the water was absolutely magical and easily the most memorable part of the experience."

"Beautiful island for snorkeling and relaxing! About 2 hours out to see from port of khasab, even saw dolphins here! Not manny since I was there in the afternoon, but apparently you can see many many more if you take a dhow out in the morning. I rented a private dhow for my family, it was a great experience! Beautiful clear water, mountains all around, crisp cool air and the dhow driver and tour guide brought us lots of food and even karak chai, it was truly a once in a lifetime experience. If you want to swim, telegraph island is the place to swim and do snorkeling, so bring your gear or ask your tour operator in advance."

"Telegraph Island, nestled in the Musandam Peninsula of Oman, stands as a testament to the bygone era of global communication. This historically rich island earned its name from the telegraph station constructed by the British during the late 19th century. Back then, the British Empire sought to establish faster communication routes between London and its far-flung territories in British India, leading to the creation of an ambitious underwater telegraph cable project.
Amidst the rugged beauty of the Musandam Peninsula, Telegraph Island served as a crucial link in this telegraph cable network. Its strategic location in the Persian Gulf made it an ideal midpoint for relaying messages between Britain and its colonies in the East. The island's remote and isolated position lent itself perfectly to this purpose.
Stepping foot onto Telegraph Island today, visitors are greeted by a serene and picturesque setting. The remnants of the telegraph station stand as silent witnesses to a bygone era. The island's rocky terrain, juxtaposed against the azure waters of the Persian Gulf, creates a mesmerizing panorama that beckons travelers and history enthusiasts alike.
Exploring the island, one can't help but feel a sense of awe at the resilience of the individuals who once inhabited this remote outpost. Imagine the telegraph operators tirelessly relaying messages across continents, connected by cables lying on the ocean floor.
As you traverse the island's paths, you'll encounter the weathered ruins of the telegraph station, offering glimpses into the past. These remnants, though worn by time, speak volumes about the technological advancements and human endeavor that shaped global communications centuries ago.
Beyond its historical significance, Telegraph Island offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves in nature's tranquility. The crystal-clear waters surrounding the island beckon snorkelers and divers to explore the vibrant underwater world teeming with marine life. The rich biodiversity of the region captivates adventurers seeking a glimpse beneath the waves.
For those looking to soak in the natural beauty, the island presents ample opportunities for relaxation. Visitors can bask in the sun, relishing the peaceful ambiance while gazing at the breathtaking vistas encompassing the island.
The journey to Telegraph Island itself is an adventure. Whether arriving by boat or engaging in a guided tour, the trip through the stunning fjords and rocky cliffs of the Musandam Peninsula is a spectacle in its own right. Travelers are treated to unparalleled views of the dramatic landscape, with rugged cliffs plunging into the sparkling waters of the Gulf.
In conclusion, a visit to Telegraph Island in Oman is not just a trip; it's a step back in time, an encounter with history, and an immersion into the untamed beauty of nature. This remarkable site offers a unique blend of historical intrigue and natural splendor that leaves an indelible mark on every visitor. Whether you're a history enthusiast, nature lover, or simply seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure, Telegraph Island stands ready to captivate and inspire."
