"The Al Hajar Mountains are one of Oman’s most stunning and iconic natural wonders.
With the highest point in the Arabian Peninsula (Jebel Shams ) and the lush terraces of Jebel Akhdar, these mountains provide unforgettable experiences for every visitor."

"The best way to experience the Hajjar mountain is to start from Nizwa. There are two prominent mountains which can be explored. Both have different flavour. There is Jabal Akhdar (Green Mountain). There are some nice hotels on Jabal Akhdar. Once can follow some of the mountain trails. There are farms of Rose, Pomegranate etc. However, dont be confused by the name. Mostly the mountains are barren with no trees on them. Besides, it is famous for Diana point, the point made famous by Princess Diana who stopped there on her visit to Oman. The other one is Jabal Shams (Sun Mountain - called so becuase it is the highest point in Oman at more than 3000 metres). The highest peak is under the Army so not accessible. One can go upto the second highest peak which is is also close to 3000 metres. There are a few hotels. However, there is hardly any farming on Jabal Shams. Personally, i liked the drive to the top of Jabal Shams more as compared to Jabal Akhdar. The temperature on both is much lower than the plains. I visited on Decmeber 2020 and the temperature in Nizwa was around 10/12 degree celcius. Just after one hour of drive up Jabal Shams, the temperature dropeed to very pleasant 14 degrees.
These mountains reach 3,000 meters above sea level. Spread amongst the desert and semi-desert, they form a rocky green island on the sandy sea. It is amazing to ride these mountains. Short one-day trips to the deep canyons are amazing. I don't know if you can go there on a trek of several days, if so it would be great to come there. Absolutely Hajjar Mountains must see."

"The Hajar Mountains are the highest mountain range within the eastern Arabian Peninsula. They located in northeastern Oman and the eastern United Arab Emirates. Lying 50 to 100 kilometers inland from the Gulf of Oman coast, they divide the low coastal plain of Oman from the high desert plateau.
The Hajar mountains start in the north, creating the Musandam peninsula. From there, the Northern Hajjar runs southeast, parallel to the coast but also moving gradually farther away as it goes. The middle section of the Hajjar is the Jebel Akhdar, which is the highest and wildest terrain in the country. Jebel Akhdar, in addition to the smaller Jebel Nakhl range, is bordered on the east side by the low Samail Valley. Eastwards of Samail are the Eastern Hajjar, which run east, towards the fishing town of Sur, nearly at the eastern point of Oman. Totally, the mountains stretch for 500 kilometers.
The low and coastal land that is north and east of the Jebel Hajjar is called Al Batinah Region, and the terrain that is inland of the mountains is Ad Dhahirah."
