"You can get here on foot and by bike. Last parking at Tutteberget. On foot it's about 15 km round trip. Then you can go either to the antenna or to the Alta kraftverk from the intersection to see the view of the canyon"

"We went to this Dam on a Marella cruise excursion. Apart from the amazing views at the dam & valley there is a very interesting history of the controversy of this; Norway' highest dam. The dam's creation was controversial as it caused some Sami people's displacement and had effects on reindeer migration. This is well explained in the Dam's visitor center."

Kevin Gibbs

"Technically interesting 145m high structure. It is spectacular how the dam was built between the 200 m high rock walls that are closely opposite each other. From the last possible parking lot you have to take a hike of around 7km long or you pay 150 euros for a guided tour with transport. I chose the 7km option and enjoyed nature. There is a viewing platform at the dam. Very nice. Disadvantage of the system: Salmon no longer move up here.
We recommend going back via the radio tower (straight up from the intersection to the power plant). From up there you have another spectacular view - this time into the Alta Canyon."
