Reviews Summary

The Brazilian Quarter Popo Aguda is a historically significant site preserving the legacy of Afro-Brazilians, praised for its cultural richness and community preservation efforts. However, some visitors have noted inconsistencies in tour guide knowledge and pricing transparency, suggesting room for improvement in visitor experience and management.

"Disappointed to give a 3 STAR because I specifically sought this place out and really wanted to learn more about Nigerian - Brazilian history. However, the tour guide didn't know the history -- basic things like when did slavery end! I also know a lot about the history and knew when the truth was being stretched but the tour guide kept arguing with me that they've been working there for 10 years so I should just "trust them".... 🙄 it's sad. So because of that we decide to downgrade from the N10k tour package to the N3k package rather than leave because we had already traveled from so far and I wanted to support the center.

The place needs work, but it's a gem in the rough. I really hope the management continues to make an effort to revam this place because it's such a great opportunity and good for the culture. We learned that the family single handedly saved some buildings from demolition so kudos to them. They also have a very nice and simple hostel available which is a lovely idea. Also found out that there are free Portuguese classes every Saturday for kids. These things should be highlighted.

Message to the owner: I congratulate your efforts, a civilian providing such a vital but neglected public service to Nigerian cultural heritage. Keep on going and don't let your vision decay!

Easy, cost effective recommendations:
- Improve your publicity--it's hard to even know this place exists and what it offers.
- Encourage your tour guides to know what they are talking about. Assuming you pay them, so they need to do their job properly."
