"We visited in March 2025 and it was absolutely beautiful - on a sunny day the colour of the lake is gorgeous and it became one of our highlights from our trip 🥰😍
We also did the loop walk and I don't regret it but if you are not that into walking you don't miss much cause the best views are from the lookout at the car park and the area around that ;)"

"During a stop at Ranfurly we asked the info centre where was good for a picnic lunch she gave us a brochure of St Banthans, OMG, what a beautiful place , the views at the lake are absolutely stunning, the walk was very interesting learning all about the gold rush era.
Definitely a must side track from the the drive from Dunedin to Queenstown."

"Well worth the drive to get to St Bathans. The longer walk was a little challenging in places but worth the effort to get a great view of the historic gold workings. If you don’t want to do that, the well formed loop track is a good option. Nice to enjoy a drink and meal at the old pub after the walk. Really clean public toilets a plus!"
