What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Lido Aquatic Centre is a popular spot for families seeking affordable fun, especially on hot days, with its warm outdoor pool being a major draw. However, some visitors have raised concerns about hygiene in changing rooms and public areas, as well as the potential for overcrowding and the cost of certain attractions like the indoor slides.
"Normally I love this pool but today I had an awful experience in the women's changing room. The shower was far too hot! luckily I had only stuck my arm under or I would've had scolded skin in a few more sensitive places and I'm lucky my kids weren't in there first! Shocking!"
Kayla Coventry
"Good facilities and the staff are friendly and approachable. My beef is the lack of lane space for people like me who want to drop in and swim a few lengths. Yesterday there were only 2 lanes open, both of these designated Fast lanes. Other 4 lanes being used for kids learning to swim, lots of splashing, very choppy water. Of course kids need to learn to swim, but if lessons are held in the 25m lane pool then the 50m outdoor pool should be open for lane swimmers. Worst swim of my life yesterday, took in mouthfulls of water."

"Love visiting the lido with my daughter! We were however a bit disappointed to see the Monster Mash wave rave on Halloween, did not have the inflatable aqua run set up & tubes were not provided and per advertising on the website. Hope to see better from the Lido next time."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
To make the most of your family visit, consider going on a weekday morning to avoid the biggest crowds and ensure more space for the kids to play. While the facility offers great value, some reviews mention hygiene concerns, so keeping a close eye on your children and ensuring they follow proper pool etiquette is advisable. The availability of free cold water is a great bonus for keeping everyone hydrated.
💰 Budget Travelers
To maximize your budget, aim for off-peak times like weekdays to potentially avoid higher weekend rates or special event surcharges. Bringing your own snacks and drinks (if permitted) can also help save money, though the availability of free cold water is a definite plus. Be prepared for basic facilities; while functional, some reviews suggest that cleanliness could be improved, which is a trade-off for the lower cost.

Navigating the Pools and Slides
For those who prefer a more structured swimming experience, the availability of lanes in the 50m pool can be an issue. Some visitors have reported that only fast lanes are open, with other lanes occupied by swimming lessons, making it difficult for casual lap swimmers to get adequate space. This can lead to choppy water and a less enjoyable swim. Planning your visit during off-peak hours is often recommended to maximize your time in the water without feeling overcrowded.
Hygiene and Safety Considerations
Furthermore, a lack of supervision for children in the pool has been mentioned, with some visitors feeling that lifeguards should be more proactive in enforcing rules and ensuring children are supervised by their parents. While the Lido offers free cold water, which is appreciated, these hygiene and safety points are important for potential visitors to be aware of. It's advisable for visitors to be vigilant about their own health and safety and to report any immediate concerns to the staff.
