Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the stunningly clear, blue freshwater lakes, calling them some of the most beautiful in New Zealand. The well-maintained campsite and peaceful atmosphere are frequently praised, making it a highly recommended spot for swimming, water sports, and relaxation. Some minor inconveniences include potential for flies and mosquitoes, and the need for sturdy camping gear.

"120 spaces for max capacity. Even at full capacity there is lots of space. Especially if you compare it to Pine beach camp ground!

Online Booking system relatively straightforward although hard to manage on a mobile device. You book, and then do a bank transfer. When I needed to make amendments via email it happened very promptly without hassle.

We found about 5 taps around the place but the water is now apparently safe to drink they are just waiting on certification!

Awesome little nooks and crannies for privacy.

6 flushing toilets (up some stairs) plus a portaloo at the far end of the camp ground. They were in decent condition. There are 3 sinks (with soap dispensers) undercover, outside the toilets.

Staff were on site when we arrived for the weekend, but left during the week. Very nice and helpful. We had no problems with other campers or day visitors, and meet some lovely people.

There are areas set aside for day visitors where you can't camp.

Lots of flies when it was warmer, a few mozzies. We also enjoyed watching the mice and caught glimpses of a rat too. Didn't cause us any trouble though but worth preparing for.

Water temperature was very pleasant for late March! Great swimming. Lots of Jet skis etc in the weekends but we had fun with the kayaks and SUP board having the beach almost to ourselves during the week. It was bliss! Lots of signs all warn of the deep drop off and are worth paying attention to if you can't swim well. The signs spooked my kids until they remembered they can actually swim...

Our site had very solid ground and we bent a fair few pegs setting up. Also had to dig a few trenches to direct water as it just sits on the surface.

Wind predominately from the west. Some nights we could even hear the waves rolling in on the west coast.

One large concrete picnic table in a very spacious communal/no camping area. Near the large swings.

I felt very safe here. We left our kayaks and SUP out at night and I felt confident on my own with the kids when my husband left for a few nights.

We chose Prom point over Pine beach because less people, more space and cheaper and because we have our own califont for hot water. I was advised the other beach was nicer but at the water level that we experienced, I disagree. The swarms of Easter holidayers definitely contributed to that though. Pine beach (no longer with any pines) was so crazy busy!

"Beautiful clear lakes that have shallow areas for swimming warm in summer in shallow water and drops off to 30m in the deep areas. Great for jetskiing and boating activities launch area roughly 300m after you go through gates off main road on left hand side. Camping areas also provided with showers and toilets."
