Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Tauranga Cruise Terminal for its exceptional walkability, allowing easy access to Mount Maunganui and the town center without needing tours. The stunning views from the Mount and the pleasant coastal atmosphere are major highlights, though some note the weather can be unpredictable.
"We really enjoyed this stop on our cruise. It's an easy to port to do things without signing up for tours. No transportation necessary, walk to beaches, the town and Mount Maunganui.
We walked past the beaches to Mount Maunganui and began the hike. You have some choices when it comes to how much you want to do. If you are concerned about the uphill portion (medium difficulty) then you can enjoy the trail that goes around the bottom. We did that and then began the corkscrew ascent. It was gorgeous, the views are amazing and there's a little bit of wildlife too (goats and a seal for us).
If you go to the top, touch the green stone for good luck.
Altogether, walking from the ship to the top and back down were about 4.5 miles, we also did a couple of extra miles along the beach and through the town."

"Lovely huge port that the ship can dock straight to, eleviating the need for tenders ashore.
The surrounding scenery is breathtaking with Mount Maunganui and the Pilot Bay Marina right at your door step.
If you don’t have any shore excursions planned, I recommend disembarking and going for a wander yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
Port staff are very friendly and our disembarkation was a simple process as was getting back on board"

"👍🏼 Like my post! The Cruise Ship Dock of the Port of Tauranga, New Zealand 🇳🇿 is a great place to greet passengers as they enter in and out getting to their cruise ships. Moreover, it's a great place to watch ships docking and undocking while waving them goodbye. The staff were very friendly and there were so much sights to see. Highly recommended if you are nearby!"
