What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Mount Luxmore for its absolutely stunning, unbeatable views and the unique geological and ecological features. The chance to see Kea parrots and the comfortable amenities at Luxmore Hut are major draws. Some find the summit hike steep and rocky, and weather can be unpredictable.
"Loved this hut stay! A beautiful view and all enclosed—you don’t need to go outside between the bunk rooms/bathrooms and dining area. There are plenty of gas stoves and flush toilets.
The sunrise is great, especially if you walk a little ways back towards the Kepler parking lot. Also the side quest hike to the cave is fun, though small…I was nervous to go too far past the bottom of the steps at sundown. Bring a headlamp to see in."

"If leaving at dawn in summer and being a skilled hiker, one can easily go return from Brod bay to the summit of Ō-te-horua-a-Te-Puhituia / Mount Luxmore. Exceptional view on top over mount Axford, mount Tinsley, mount Max, mount Lyall, mount Owen, mount Titiroa and of course lake Manoturau and lake Te Anau ⛰️"

"You will get there after staying at the Luxmore Hut. A visit during the Kepler Track is definitely to consider. You might be accompanied by some Keas if you are lucky. But be aware of your surroundings if you go for a small snack at the summit. The will try to steal some food:D
Its a about a 10 min hike from the regular track and quite steep and rocky. But this sould be an issue after already getting this far up the hill. You will be rewarded with an amazing view over not just one valley, more like the whole landscape and the region of Te Anau😄
One of the greatest experiences is to get up there after the sunrise. It feels unreal. If you look back where you came from you are going to see the path that lays in front of you. Thats some Lord of the rings kind of experience:D"
