Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Silver Stream Railway for its stunning scenery and the nostalgic experience of riding a historic steam train. The well-maintained engines and carriages, along with the knowledgeable volunteers, add to the charm. However, some find the ticket prices a bit steep, and evening visits require preparation for biting insects.
"Went there in the evening for a family special birthday. Accessibility from car park slightly hairy but you can access it from further down the street where you can enter at platform level. Watch for sandflies/midges/mozzies in the evening - I was bitten so badly I had to see a Dr. So cover up/use spray. Beautifully maintained carriages and platform, very tidy indeed."

"Always a great experience. The volunteers are knowledgeable and very kind. Lots of different engines to see so worth multiple visits! Credit card and eftpos available, some drinks, icecreams, and a few chippies/chocolate bars for sale, but recommend you take a picnic if you want anything more substantial. Don't wear your favourite white top 😂"

"Fantastic place for the kids. We have a two year old train enthusiast who even asked the driver if he could drive the train. The history is fascinating. Never knew how dangerous the Hutt railway was. Staff are all volunteers and are all very helpful and knowledgeable.
Definitely bring a jacket as even in a slight breeze it can be cold. It is a bit pricey, but it certainly a good couple of hours of entertainment."
